Jimmy Carter breaks silence with heartbreaking tribute to wife Rosalynn after her death aged 96

As announced by the Carter Center, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has died at the age of 96 after a courageous six-month fight with dementia. Between 1977 until 1981, she was First Lady under President Jimmy Carter and carried on her humanitarian activities through the Carter Center.

The previous twelve months had been difficult for Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter’s health. Due to his worsening health, Jimmy decided against more medical treatment in February and entered hospice care. Due to her dementia diagnosis, Rosalynn also underwent hospice care last week.

Rosalynn was lauded by Jimmy Carter as a “equal partner” and he acknowledged her for providing good counsel and support all through their life together. Their close union was characterized by Rosalynn’s active participation in both Jimmy’s political career and personal life. The couple had been married since 1946.

Tragically, Rosalynn did not survive the return to their hometown in Plains, Georgia, which marked the end of their linked trip that had been defined by mutual support and shared triumphs. Their voyage had lasted less than 48 hours.
